La Coupole - The V2
This you need to visit. Built into a hill, and though never completed, you get an idea of how it was one as it was left half done. Entry is via the original main rail tunnel, and then up underneath the Cupole itself. Today they have turned it into a museum covering WW2 as well as the space race. Walking through the tunnels makes you think what it must have been like to be the labourers forced to work in there, when conditions would not have been as "pleasant" as modern health & safety requirements would have made it. The cupola itself on the top is some 6mres thick re-inforced concrete. Our bombing wrecked the environs, but nothing broke the cupola itself.
There is just no substitute for visiting the real battlefields of WW2 in Europe if you have an opportunity to do so.
