Batterie Todt
Once a gun battery that fired shells across the English Channel. Of teh 4 huge gun bunkers, 2 lie empty, 1 is wrecked and the thrid houses the excellent museum which carries the name. Inside is a superb collection of WW2 memorabilia, an ideal reference source for modellers, with uniforms, weapons and equipment. It is also home to one of the largest exhibitis you can find, a German 28cm Railway Gun. The only other one I know of is at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in the USA. With other artillery pieces outside as well, an excellent collection that is well worth the visit. What's more, only about a 15 minute drive from the Eurotunnel to easy to get to.
There is just no substitute for visiting the real battlefields of WW2 in Europe if you have an opportunity to do so.
