Agincourt
Agincourt, or Azincourt to be correct, is a small village in the Pas de Calais in northern France. Site of the famous battle when about 5000 English soldiers defeated about 30000 French. The legend of the Longbow was cemented into history by this and the battle of Crecy. The village and the surrounds are dotted with 2-D figures in medieval dress. On the battlefiled, a line of archers illustrates the English line. Close by, a memorial marks a mass grave to the French losses of the day. A marvellous new visitor centre is well worth the visit, and all the door hadles are shaped like..... yes, longbows!
There is just no substitute for visiting the real battlefields of WW2 in Europe if you have an opportunity to do so.
